At least the river view is nice We ate in the grill downstairs on Monday, April 21, 2009 around 7:30. Our server was mediocre at best. She left us for long periods without water and with messy plates. I noticed the other servers were much more engaged with their tables. For whatever reason, we drew the short stick. Life will go on, of course, but given the tab you have to expect better! Our meal was so-so. We went with the current Prix Fixe menu, the Stimulus Package, which is clearly designed to drum up business in a teetering economy (the restuarant was half-empty). I went with the filet which was relatively tastless although the Bernaise sauce redeemed it somewhat. The baked potato was excellent and the Wollensky Salad was decent. My wife had the crab cakes, which were good but not great. In fact, for $150 without tip (including a few drinks) and only one boat going by in the foul weather, I would rather stand on the State Street Bridge with a P&J than eat here again. Thumbs down although in better weather on the patio and with a decent server I can see that this is a place worth trying based on its phenomenal location alone.Was this review helpful?

Nice view but watch your personal items in summer I have been here several times and the food is always very good, but the service is just too slow at least for a business lunch. Also, to note, and not the fault of the restaurant, but my purse was stolen from under my chair during lunch. Be very careful when you sit outside as there is a public walkway right behind your table.Was this review helpful?

Giant servings Who knew that when you ordered the chicken you would get the ENTIRE chicken? We didn't. Nor did we know personal pizza meant a size medium. Or when you ordered the cake, you got 1/3rd of the whole cake. I can only imagine what their dishes for two would be. The portion sizes were WAY TOO LARGE. It was ridiculous. We hadn't gone in that hungry and were just astounded. It explains the prices being so high - for a 10 oz filet when I am accustomed to maybe half that at other fine dining establishments - but wow. Nice view. Big prices. Huge food (sometimes more quantity than quality as was the case for the tuna which was a bit dry, and the medium rares that were more medium).. Convenient location, good experience. Was at a hotel nearby for business last year and ate here one night. My memory of it was: The wait staff was friendly. The meal was delicious. The portion was filling. Overall, a fine experience. Good for business dining.Was this review helpful?

Don't hesitate - go get a great steak We had a fabulous meal and the wait staff was top notch. The boned in filet was cooked perfect (medium as recommended) and was so flavorful that I declined to use their famous steak sauce. The salad was large enough to split as well as the generous portions of sides. The ambiance is old Chicago and the window views were magnificent from the lower seating area.Was this review helpful?
