A bit pricey but easily worth it. The Colorado Rack of Lamb was an enormous portion with an extraordinary taste. It was a clear choice over the Baseball Steak, which was also excellent. The onion rings had a terrific delicate, light flavor. A real plus is that the restaurant is quiet with super comfortable booths so that strain-free conversation is possible. The unique, non-corporate ambiance is palpable. A minus is that the on-line menu does not include prices. Pacific Dining Car is thus emulating other high end restaurants that are too embarrassed to show their prices. Entrees are ~$54, with everything a la carte. Dinner for two with tip and a glass of wine came to a shade under $180. This is a clear choice over the other high end downtown restaurants with small portions and a noisy, conversation-killing atmosphere, like the those in the Patina group (e.g., Cafe Pinot; Patina) which do display online prices.

How great is it to have a 24 hour dining option in LA? It's a little pricey if you're just looking for a late night bite, but it's great to have a little NY in downtown LA.

Check your watch. In case you're wondering if they are open right now, that answer is YES! Four am, you're picking your homie up from jail and you want to grub... Hey the Pacific Dining Car is open. Treat your boy to a steak after a hard weekend in the tank. Fancy place, fancy prices, but where else can you get filet mignon and creme brulee at four in the morning? And if you're taking a girl on a date and trying to impress, this is a good 'insiders' kinda spot to know about.

Those of you who love the venerable House of Prime Rib in San Francisco will similarly love PDC. It's a meat eaters paradise that you and your parents (and grandparents) can share.
